First woman to tag a whale shark

Susan Kim Smith, a biologist with the Shark Research Institute (SRI), was the first woman to ever tag a whale shark (Rhincodon typus). She tagged the shark, a six-metre (20 ft) male named Khalid (tag number SRI-WS0007), on January 16, 1994, 10 km (6.2 miles) south of Durban, South Africa.
