Founded the International Underwater Spearfishing Association (IUSA) in 1950; co-founder of Los Angeles Fire Department’s Neptune Club, one of the first dive clubs in California; established the United States National Underwater Spearfishing Athlete of the Year Award in 1952; took part in the Normandy invasion while in the U.S. Navy.

Jeffrey Gallant is the Editor-in-Chief and Records Keeper of the Diving Almanac. He is also a contributing editor of DIVER Magazine, and the scientific director of the Greenland Shark and Elasmobranch Education and Research Group (GEERG). Jeffrey started diving in 1982.
