Deepest recovered sandwich

Last updated: December 12, 2017 at 16:05 pm

1,585 m (5,200 ft) – In September, 1969, three bologna sandwiches were recovered during the record salvage of the Alvin submersible which had spent nearly a year on the sea floor with its hatch open. Despite being soaked in sea water and exposed to extreme pressure for 10 months, the sandwiches looked so good that a scientist took a bite and discovered that they were still palatable.
