Co-founder of British Sub-Aqua Club with Peter Small in 1953 after failing to merge with Harold Penman’s Underwater Explorers Club; boarded the last British destroyer evacuating British troops at Dunkirk in 1940; imported swimming goggles and swimfins from France after the war, selling up to 300 pairs of fins a week.
