Diving and underwater photography pioneer; first underwater model; producer; author; went on her first expedition with Hans Hass in the Red Sea in 1950 resulting in the Oscar-winning film Under the Red Sea; reportedly the first diver to film manta rays and whale sharks; author of A Girl on the Ocean Floor in 1970; married Hans Hass shortly after returning from the 1950 Red Sea expedition; retired from public life after the birth of their daughter, Meta, in 1958.
