Surgeon Vice Admiral; Director of Health and Research (Navy) 1975- 1977; Medical Director General (Navy) 1977-1980; member of SEALAB program; developer of sea escape techniques for pilots of downed aircraft; Past President of the founding executive committee for the European Underwater and Baromedical Society; former President of the Historical Diving Society; former President of the Association of RN First Class Divers; awarded the Gilbert Blane Medal of the Royal College of Surgeons for his work on coldwater diving in 1974.
