Adventurer; pioneer underwater cameraman; stunt diver; author; wrote Danger is my Business in 1938; host of the 1960-62 ABC-TV documentary series Expedition!; learned hard-hat diving from Japanese sargassum farmers in 1931; was part of a failed attempt to dive the RMS Lusitania to recover cargo in 1936; worked with Max Gene Nohl to perfect deep diving techniques in preparation for the canceled Lusitania expedition; worked with the U.S. Navy on underwater sound research in 1960.
