Professional underwater photographer and filmmaker; television host; co-owner of The Film Crew, a production company based in Santa Barbara, with his wife Mimi Armstrong deGruy; TED speaker; was a part of the team that first filmed the vampire squid and the chambered nautilus; was part of the team for James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge (2012); was killed in a helicopter crash while on assignment in Australia.
