Founder of PADI Europe; pioneer in the development of recreational diving in Europe; former president of Glaukos, the oldest diving club in Switzerland; did his first scuba dive in the Mediterranean Sea with Club Alpin-Sous-Marin de Cannes in 1950; supported the development of the CMAS Scientific Commission; founder and co-owner of JWL (Jack William Lavanchy), which later became JWL Aqualung AG; was granted the European and Maldives franchise from PADI with partner Jürg Beeli in 1983; launched PADI Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility and Education) Foundation in Europe in 1996.

Jeffrey Gallant is the Editor-in-Chief and Records Keeper of the Diving Almanac. He is also a contributing editor of DIVER Magazine, and the scientific director of the Greenland Shark and Elasmobranch Education and Research Group (GEERG). Jeffrey started diving in 1982.
