10 years – The olm (Proteus anguinus) is an aquatic salamander that lives in flooded underground caves throughout Italy and the Balkan Peninsula. It lives in perpetual darkness so it is blind and its skin has no pigment (colour). It is the only chordate species in Europe that lives its entire life in caves. Also known as the Proteus, and the human fish.
