Based on observations made by fishers during the colonization of New England, lobsters of that period may have lived up to 150 years. A 9-kg (20 lbs) lobster known as George was estimated to be around 140 years old when he was released from the City Crab and Seafood restaurant in Manhattan in January 2009.
