Spook, a gray seal (Halichoerus grypus) born at the New York Aquarium, died in 2010 just two weeks shy of his 45th birthday. Born on January 13, 1965, Spook was the first gray seal ever born in an aquarium or zoo. He was eight feet long and weighed 340 kg (750 lbs). Female gray seals are estimated to live up to 35 years in the wild.
