Diving pioneer; established Our World Underwater Scholarship Society and the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences (1993), which administers the NOGI Award; former dive club president and president of YMCA Metropolitan Council of Scuba Clubs in Chicago; former Director of the Illinois Council of Scuba Clubs; former Board of Governors of the Underwater Society of America; dive tourism pioneer; founder of Scuba Consultants Ltd; co-owner of a Florida Keys dive resort; founded the California Scuba Advisory Committee; took over the NOGI Award Program after the death of its creator, Jay Albanese, in 1967; AUAS Harry Shanks Award for Leadership in Diving award named in his honour; served as a Navy Air Corps pilot during WWII.

Jeffrey Gallant is the Editor-in-Chief and Records Keeper of the Diving Almanac. He is also a contributing editor of DIVER Magazine, and the scientific director of the Greenland Shark and Elasmobranch Education and Research Group (GEERG). Jeffrey started diving in 1982.
