Cousteau and his team pioneered the world of underwater exploration sailed all over the world aboard Calypso for more than 35 years. The Calypso sank in Singapore after being hit by a barge in 1996. She was raised and eventually towed back to La Rochelle where she lay in an advanced state of decay for a decade.
