Underwater explorer; retired United States Navy officer; discoverer of the RMS Titanic and many other shipwrecks including German battleship Bismarck, the USS Yorktown and JFK’s PT-109; National Geographic Society explorer-in-residence; President of the Institute for Exploration; created the Center for Ocean Exploration and Archaeological Oceanography, at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography in 2003.
