U.S. Navy diver; developed and led the US Navy SEALs; founding commander of U.S. Navy SEAL Team Two in 1962; served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War; tasked with salvaging bodies and ammunition from the USS Arizona after the attack on Pearl Harbor; assisted in the design and implementation of the Navy’s first counterinsurgency course.
