Royal Navy diver allegedly killed during covert diving mission under the Soviet cruiser Ordzhonikidze in Portsmouth Harbour while investigating a new propeller design; the “Crabb Affair” was Ian Fleming’s inspiration for the James Bond film Thunderball; underwater clearance diver during WWII; principal Diving Officer for Northern Italy assigned to mine clearing in the ports of Livorno and Venice; recruited by MI6 in 1956.
