Founding publisher of DIVER magazine (UK) (originally known as Triton) in 1963; served as the Editor for 12 years before getting certified as a recreational diver through BSAC; co-founder of The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) an organization for the protection of the marine environment and its wildlife; took an active diving role in the excavation of the celebrated Tudor shipwreck Mary Rose; organised many international underwater conferences; introduced the International Festival of Underwater Film in Brighton.
