Giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) — Species of brown algae measuring up to 60 m (200 ft) off the Pacific coast of North America. The giant kelp life cycle is believed to last 12 to 14 months. Macrocystis pyrifera is also the world’s fastest growing seaweed.
